Letter From the Editor:
Dear Reader,
It still amazes me how every morning I can get out of bed and open up my Ancestry file and type in a date like today September 5th and I'll find an O'Neal life event that I had missed. Today's edition is dedicated in honor of Ella Voiers O'Neal.
The story unfolds in (oh, here is the mystery already) I had no idea where she was born. See, I found her date of birth listed on her certificate of death but the place of her birth was not listed. It simply said West Virginia. My best guess is that she was born in Kanawha County, West Virginia but that may not be true.
The truth is I went looking for her birth certificate or her register of births but was unable to locate it anywhere in any county. I typed in her last name with several different ways of spelling and the only Voiers born on Sept 5, 1913 was a Ruth Voiers and her parents were not Ella's parents. I then went to the 1910 Federal Census to see if the household was even residing in Kanawha County back around the time of her birth. George Voiers her father was still single in 1910. It turns out he didn't marry Amanda "Mandy" Tyree until 1913. The record is so dark you can't really see the date they were married. I believe it looks like January. It's possible that her record of birth is just missing from the records. I hope to find it someday. She was definitely born in Kanawha County, West Virginia though.
So once that mystery was solved I had another mystery to uncover. Although I didn't know it at the time. I saw on her death certificate the informant was listed as Mr. Charles O'Neal so I had assumed that was her husband. I was wrong to think that though. I went straight to my favorite search engine and saw she was actually married to an Orville Ray O'Neal. The Charles O'Neal listed on her death certificate was most likely his father.
I looked on
www.familysearch.org for her in the 1940 Federal Census and that confined her marriage. She was in the household of her husband Orville Ray O'Neal. I still have no idea why I couldn't and still can't find their marriage license and or application. I later found Orville Ray O'Neal's draft registration and his wife was also listed as Ella. I checked to see if they were married in 1930 but they were still both single. So they married sometime between 1930 and 1940. Their son Donald Ray O'Neal was born on December 8, 1937 so they most likely were married that year. So I guess my question is where are these missing records? She was buried in Montgomery Memorial Park in London, Kanawha County, West Virginia on May 7, 1957. She died of Cancer on May 4, 1957 and yet her tombstone is not listed on the www.findagrave.com website. I didn't see any other children either so did they only have one child?

Ancestry:
I have placed Ella Voiers O'Neal in my personal notes as an "Eighth Generation O'Neal" because when she married Orville Ray O'Neal that was the tier of O'Neals he was listed in. I had previously traced back his O'Neal lineage seven previous generations as follows; (Charles Arnold O'Neal, Alfred M.O'Neal, Daniel Grover O'Neal Sr., Jesse O'Neal, John H. O'Neal, James O'Neal, Unknown O'Neal).
Birth Information:
Ella Voiers O'Neal was born on Sept 5 1913 in Kanawha County West Virginia. She was likely the first child of George and Amanda (Terry) Voiers of Cabin Creek, Kanawha County West Virginia.
Marriage Information:
Ella Voiers became Ella O'Neal sometime prior to the 1940 Federal Census. She had her first child in December of 1937 so it's likely that she was married in that same year. She married Orville Ray O'Neal in Kanawha County West Virginia. He was the son of Charles Arnold O'Neal and Lettie Pettry O'Neal of Cabin Creek, Kanawha County West Virginia.
Death Information:
Ella Voiers O'Neal fell asleep in death due to cancer of the Uterus at the young age of 43 on May 4, 1957. She was buried in Montgomery Memorial Park in London, Kanawha County West Virginia on May 7, 1957.
Legacy:
Ella Voiers O'Neal left behind at least one child that I am aware of at present Donald Ray O'Neal. He married and had children of his own. She may have had other children.
Obituary:
I haven't been able to find it yet.

Questions Unanswered:
Where is the register of birth record?
What day were they married?
Who were her grandparents on both sides and did she live long enough to see or hold her first grandchild?
Did Orville Ray O'Neal remarry after her death?
Scripture of the Day:
Daniel 10:11
"Then he said to me: “O Daniel, you very precious man, give attention to the words that I am about to speak to you. Now stand up in your place, for I have been sent to you.” When he said this to me, I stood up"
Getting the Point:
Some people claim that Jehovah God the creator of the heavens and the Earth hasno personal interest in us however, today's scripture clearly shows that God listens to prayers and he has intimate feelings about how we respond to him!
