Genealogy Corner:

Ashley- If your last name is Ashley you may have found this page because you were researching your family tree and in particular searching for information about this Douglas Skip Ashley mentioned in this edition. I haven't really had that much time to research the Ashley family yet. What I do know is that the Ashley family was joined to the O'Neal family when Douglas married Carol O'Neal. I haven't actually found the date of their marriage yet but perhaps this edition will open up the opportunity to fill that in.

O'Neal- If your last name is O'Neal you may have found this page because you were researching the Connie Carol O'Neal Ashley mentioned in today's edition. I just found her obituary today and didn't know of her existence until today. The sad thing is I should have known all about her by now. Just yesterday I was researching her father's information along with her sister-n-law Lenora the wife of her brother Herbert O'Neal. However, because of that research, I can tell you all about the O'Neal side of this union.

Carrie Carol O'Neal Ashley was born on Sept 2, 1946. She was named after her grandmother Carrie O'Neal. I do not know her grandmother's maiden name yet. She is recorded in my personal notes as a Fourth Generation O'Neal because I have traced her O'Neal lineage back three previous generations as follows; (Miles Franklyn O'Neal, Jacob "Jake" O'Neal, Joseph "Joe" O'Neal. I may have found Jake's father too but I don't have enough documentation to prove it yet so for now she's only listed as a fourth generation O'Neal.

This line of O'Neals as far as I can tell are not directly related to my line of O'Neals. That is not to say that we are not related somewhere I just haven't found the connection yet. They evidently originally came from Tennessee by way of North Carolina. I'm still researching.

Letter From the Editor:

Dear Reader,

I was so upset yesterday. I had written the first newsletter for the month of September and it was full of so much great new information. I had researched the Dixon/O'Neal connection and tried putting into words my personal interaction with the Dixon family and I was satisfied with my post. After proofreading it however it failed to save and there went four hours of work down the drain. I was so frustrated. I told myself starting in September I'm becoming a writer and I'm gonna post a blog every day regardless. I posted a sorry newsletter yesterday late but I posted it. Then when I got started writing today's edition highlighting a life event in the O'Neal family for September 2nd I was happy to see it was the same family that of Frank and Zola O'Neal. I had found some information yesterday but even with all that research I missed a daughter. This edition was dedicated to the birth of their daughter Carrie Carol O'Neal Ashley.

Sincerely,

Ray A O'Neal

Questions Unanswered:

When and where was she married?

Who are Douglas Skip Ashley's  parents?

Scripture of the Day:

1 Timothy 4:16

"Pay constant attention to yourself and to your teaching. Persevere in these things, for by doing this you will save both yourself and those who listen to you."

Cross-references:

2 Timothy 4:2 "Preach the word; be at it urgently in favorable times and difficult times; reprove, reprimand, exhort, with all patience and art of teaching."

1 Cor 9:22 "To the weak I became weak, in order to gain the weak. I have become all things to people of all sorts, so that I might by all possible means save some."

Getting the Point:

When I read today's scripture I nearly missed the point. At first I thought it was all about  paying attention to sharing the message. However, I nearly missed the warning. Did you notice the beginning "Pay constant attention to yourself". How many times have you met someone who says one thing and yet does another. Hypocrite comes to mind does it not?

I had a hard pill to swallow. Yes, we should be sharing the message and we should be at it urgently! Yes, we should tailor our words with salt and put ourselves in our listeners shoes, paying close attention to how we preach. Yes, we should be Christlike in our compassion. However, we can't forget the hard part where we don't forget to reprove and reprimand as well.

In this scripture I feel as if we must first pay constant attention to how we act. We sometimes need our own self discipline. For only then will the message truly have an impact on our listeners because they will have already recognized by our actions the proof in the pudding! I admit I fall short many times and yet I  do try to get the words off the page and into my heart.
