Genealogy Corner:

Lester- This Louisa Lester was the first Lester to marry into our O'Neal clan. William Floyd is a descendant of the Lester family as well now.

O'Neal- This William Floyd O'Neal was my Grandfather's Uncle. He was also my Great Grandmother's Father.

Bishop- Mary Ann was the daughter of John Bishop. When she married into the O'Neal family her last name changed. Her children all became O'Neal/Bishop descendants. Her family became our family.

History:

Did you know?

I have traced this O'Neal lineage back as follows: (William Floyd O'Neal, William Mathew O'Neal, John Wolf O'Neal, William O'Neal, John H. O'Neal, James O'Neal, Unknown O'Neal) This means he's a seventh generation O'Neal.

Letter from the Editor:

Dear Reader,

I was searching for a July 3rd "O'Neal" event and came across the  record of William Floyd O'Neal's marriage to Mary Ann Bishop. They were married on July 3, 1909. He was 24 years old and she was 29. They went to get their marriage license on June 29, 1909. So looking for one event I found two.The one event being their trip to the courthouse on the 29th and then the second the day of the wedding on the third.

I found it interesting to see that the marriage took place at William and Louisa's residence rather than at Mary's  parents. On the marriage record it didn't indicate who her mother was so perhaps her mother wasn't living at the time and it could be they needed a woman's touch to enhance the ceremony. I double checked to see if my theory was correct and her mother Sarah Belcher Bishop had died in 1904. It still amazes me how one record can open the door to another mystery. I do not have a photo of William Floyd O'Neal but would like one to add to my file. If you have one please send me a copy. I hope you enjoyed reading this edition of the "The O'Neal Times" Wyoming County, Edition!

Sincerely,
Ray A. O'Neal
